Money Monday!

The Work is Done.

This week, I’m sharing something I frequently hear from people who have just retired.  But first, I will tell you the story of an interesting lesson I learned from my wife that guided me in helping clients with their retirement planning.

Years ago, Lindsay worked as an event planner for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  One Saturday night, we were at one of her events which was a black-tie gala in Philadelphia. Lindsay and I were chatting and having a great time, and I was probably devouring the bacon-wrapped scallops like I normally do. I turned to her and not-so-smoothly said,  “This is your event, shouldn’t you be doing something?”

She simply turned to me and said, “The work is done. If I didn’t do my job, there would be work to do.”

This story applies to retirement as people often expect that there will be work to do upon retirement, but if it’s been done right, retirees can focus on adjusting to this new phase of life and enjoying it.

If you need help planning for your “big event” of retirement, please reach out to me. I’d be happy to help.
