Money Monday!

The kids are back in school, and fall sports are up and running… let the chaos begin!  This week, I’m sending a quick reminder on meal planning that will save you time and money as well as help you stay healthy.

Meal planning is part of a good financial plan.  By planning out your weekday meals around your busy weekday schedule, you will:

  • Reduce your number of last-minute “Let’s just order a pizza” nights.
  • Reduce the amount of costly wasted food.
  • Increase the number of nutritious meals which can be made in advance and heated up.

Each week before going to the grocery store, take 10 minutes to look at your crazy schedule and map out your meals for Monday-Friday.  In addition, you can have a “cooking day” a couple times per year where you:

  • Go to Costco or BJ’s and stock up on meat which you can then marinate and freeze. Using a Food Saver is great for this.
  • Make casseroles you can freeze and cook or heat later.
  • You can involve the kids in your cooking day and have some fun with it. Maybe let them make some cookies as an incentive!
